"Cavalos de papel": Representações da figura equina em literatura francesa, de entre-as-duas guerras à época contemporânea

The purpose of this thesis is to analyze the heritage of the mythical figurations and of the plastic and literary representations of the horse in a selection of fiction works from the 20th and 21st centuries. Consequently, their resumption and their re-elaboration of the figure of the horse in some French stories and novels allow us to conduct a thematic reading, appreciating the stakes associated with them. By alluding to «paper horses», this thesis wishes to question the horse of literary fiction, and not horse riding or equestrian sports in general, and to perceive what are the horses peculiar aspects, both from a diachronic perspective – the evolution of representations over time – and synchronic – the articulation of these different phenomena in relation to each other in contemporary literature.In what way does the presence of the horse refer the reader to current ecological questions about the place of man within nature, crystallizing both the anguish of death and a civilizational crisis?Ce travail de thèse a pour objet d’analyser l’héritage des figurations mythiques et des représentations plastiques et littéraires du cheval dans une sélection d’œuvres de fiction des XXe et XXIe siècles. Leur reprise et leur ré-élaboration appellent une lecture thématique de la figure du cheval dans quelques récits et romans français, et l’appréciation des enjeux qui y sont associés. En faisant allusion aux « chevaux de papier », cette thèse souhaite interroger le cheval de fiction littéraire, et non l’équitation ou les pratiques équestres en général, et percevoir quels sont les aspects propres au cheval, à la fois dans une perspective diachronique – l’évolution des représentations dans le temps – et synchronique – l’articulation de ces différents phénomènes les uns par rapport aux autres dans la littérature contemporaine.En quoi la présence du cheval renvoie-t-elle le lecteur aux questionnements écologiques actuels sur la place de l’homme au sein de la nature, cristallisant à la fois l’angoisse de la mort et d’une crise civilisationnelle
